About SearchSearch for Common Ground (Search) is an international conflict transformation NGO that aims to transform the way individuals, groups, governments, and companies deal with conflict, away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative solutions. Headquartered in Washington DC, USA, and Brussels, Belgium, with field offices in 35 countries, Search designs and implements multifaceted, culturally appropriate, and conflict-sensitive programs using a diverse range of tools, including media and training, to promote dialogue, increase knowledge and determine a positive shift in behaviours.
About the ProjectSearch in partnership with Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), Ijara Women For Peace (IJW) and Kiunga Youth Bunge Initiative (KYBI) are implementing a project which supports improving collaboration and trust between citizens and civilian government representatives in at-risk counties. This 24-month project supported by PREACT- US DEPARTMENT OF STATE U.S. EMBASSY NAIROBI, targets Lamu and Garissa counties and has the overall goal to empower community leaders and relevant government counterparts to jointly address issues of radicalization and terrorist recruitment in at-risk areas of Lamu and Garissa Counties.
To achieve this goal, the project has two interrelated objectives:1). Strengthen community-led, CVE-relevant support and response structures in at-risk communities in Garissa and Lamu Counties.2). Increase trust and collaboration between community members and relevant local government and security actors in at-risk areas.
About Psychosocial Support FundThis project will provide a psychosocial support fund for project participants. These funds will be made available to any participants, especially young men and women community influencers, who request psychosocial support as a result of challenges or trauma they have experienced as a result of their participation in the program. The funds will finance psychosocial support services provided by trusted third parties.
Objective of Psychosocial SupportSpecifically, the objectives of the psychosocial support sessions are as follows:
1}. To finance psychosocial service providers who will train and support the TOTs in providing psychosocial support to their peers and the communities affected by effects of violent extremism.2). To provide a psychosocial support fund for project participants especially young men and women community influencers that have experienced trauma as a result of their participation in the program.Deliverables

• TOTs in Garissa and Lamu counties to gain knowledge on trauma healing support
• TOTs in Garissa and Lamu counties to offer psychosocial support to members of their own community
• Participants are connected to fellow peers, government and non-government entities for support and guidance
• Weekly summary of the progress
• Monthly report on the progress of the sessions
• Develop a client led recovery model for each of the persons dis-engaged

Requirements

• Proficiency in English and one of the local languages in Lamu and Garissa Counties.
• Experience in conducting similar assignments.
• Trained to acknowledge the psychological, emotional, and physiological effects of traumatic events.
• Understand the journey of life.
• Well conversant with multiple coping skills and other useful tools in therapy.
• Demonstrate skills, empathy, active listening skills, social and communication skills, boundary setting, critical thinking, patience, observant and confidentiality.
• Contextual knowledge and experience in working in Lamu and Garissa counties.

Timeline

• Search expects to finalize the recruitment of the service provider by the last week of October 2023
• The consultancy is expected to last for two months
• Final deadlines will be agreed by Search and the service provider upon signing of the contract.

Geographical LocationsThe assignment will be undertaken in Lamu specifically in Mkunumbi and Hindi wards as well as online platforms
Logistical SupportAll Logistical support should be included in the budget proposal.
