Job Description

Search for Common Ground (Search) is an international conflict transformation NGO that aims to transform the way individuals, groups, governments and companies deal with conflict, away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative solutions. Headquartered in Washington DC, USA, and Brussels, Belgium, with field offices in 35 countries, Search designs and implements multifaceted, culturally appropriate and conflict-sensitive programs using a diverse range of tools, including media and training, to promote dialogue, increase knowledge and determine a positive shift in behaviors.In this call Search for Common Ground (Search) is seeking to work with an animator / an animation company to produce two video clips to support an effective, conflict-sensitive response to the COVID-19 pandemic in a way that prevents deterioration of social cohesion in Kenya.The outbreak of the novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) has revealed the fragility of Kenya’s health and governance system. The global oil crisis and the price fluctuation resulted in a severe negative effect on the Kenyan economy which brought additional complexities to the context. About the Project Search for Common Ground (Search) in partnership with the European Union for the past seven months have been implementing a 15 Months rapid-response Working together against Corona campaign that supports an effective, conflict-sensitive response to the COVID-19 pandemic in a way that prevents further deterioration of social cohesion in fragile contexts in Africa, namely in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Nigeria.This action has a two-fold purpose: on the one hand, it aims to render the response to the pandemic in the targeted countries more effective by ensuring citizen acceptance of the response through access to reliable information on the other, it will mitigate the negative impact of the crisis on social cohesion and prevent it from exacerbating existing conflict dynamics Covid19 prevention.About the FundingThis funding is to improve community access to trustworthy and verified information about the virus and its impact through the use of traditional and new media, grassroots communication and community engagement activities. The animated video clips will be complementary to the COVID-19 programmatic activities that the Kenyan team is currently implementing and will address concrete needs in the COVID-19 Context, new challenges that emerged in the past months related to COVID-19 or its longer-term impacts.Thematic Priorities Budget

  • Encourage collaboration among individuals of all ages, gender and groups across dividing lines and identify opportunities that exist to foster peace.
  • Promote social cohesion during pandemic times.

Evaluation Criteria: An internal committee will assess the bids received, on the basis of: 1) Proven track record producing high-quality animation video clips for a national and international audience; 2) Prior experience producing animation videos for international NGOs in East Africa; 3) Knowledge of the region; 4) Value for money.As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.
