The UNFCCC Conference of the Parties 27 (COP 27) will take place in Sharm el-Sheikh Egypt in November 2022. This will be an important platform for elevating key issues that should inform decision-making at a national and international level to meet Africa’s climate commitments. CIFF aims to participate in COP 27 by bringing youth voices from all over Africa. This is part of CIFF’s vision of a climate-safe future for today’s children and future generations.
Raising the African youth climate voices is one of CIFF Africa's Climate priority focus areas. As part of COP 27, CIFF, in partnership with key partners will aim to catalyse several youth activities with the aim of calling for greater ambition on climate action. This will include hosting a first-of-a-kind Youth Pavilion in the Blue Zone of the COP 27 which will be a dedicated events space aimed at giving youth converging leverage at the COP 27 to push their agenda while at the same time giving youth a rare opportunity to agenda set, meet influential stakeholders in a controlled space and curate convenings that reflect their values.
In addition, CIFF together with strategic partners will also organise a Peace Boat, which brings youth activists from across Africa on the frontline of the climate crisis on a voyage onboard Peace Boat’s ship to raise awareness of the impacts of the climate crisis across Africa, amplifying their voices for action. Press Conferences, public events and meetings with government representatives will be organised in different countries that the youth visit with the Peace Boat. These events will be youth-led, youth-owned, and youth-curated to ensure maximum participation and ownership from the youth.
Against this background, CIFF seeks to recruit a COP 27 Project Manager to lead on the development and implementation of CIFF’s COP 27 Strategy and events organised around this. This is an exciting role requiring coordination and relationship building with several stakeholders including influential youth groups, donor institutions and service delivery vendors. The successful applicant will be a highly organised ‘self-starter who will work closely with the Africa Climate Director, the Africa Climate Team and the London Climate Team in the essential coordination and delivery of CIFF’s COP 27, events. The role will require coordinating between several stakeholders including influential youth groups, donor institutions and service delivery vendors in the lead up, at and after the COP.
