Know our team

Nutrition International's External Relations (ER) unit is a diverse team of dedicated professionals responsible for the development and implementation of advocacy and communications priorities across the organization. The unit leads, coordinates, and supports global government relations, global advocacy, and business development with institutional donors, as well as media relations, corporate and digital communications, and the Nutrition International brand. The ER unit works closely with other teams across the organization to grow and diversify resources for Nutrition International's global strategy and Investment Case, drive thought leadership, and grow global support for nutrition, and Nutrition International. Members of the ER team are located in Nutrition International's Headquarters in Ottawa, Canada as well as our Asia and Africa Regional Offices. Nutrition International is currently seeking applications for a Director of External Relations to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

About you

You are someone with a bachelor's degree from a recognized university in International Development, International Relations or related field from reputable university or institution. An additional advanced degree desirable. 10 years experience working in government relations, advocacy, communications, stakeholder relations or partnerships, with at least five years’ experience in a management position and experience in working for an international organization or managing initiatives with both domestic and global audiences. International and foreign government relations experience as well as experience in the nutrition, health or development sector and a broad understanding of international political, health and development context; including concepts of impact and cost effectiveness. Understanding of NGO environment and operating environment in south / southeast Asia is an added advantage.


About the role

In this role you will lead Lead advocacy activities with Nutrition International’s key regional partners, including the African Union and its member states, the African Leaders for Nutrition Secretariat, the African Development Bank and Africa’s Regional Economic Communities. Lead the planning and execution of communications activities in Africa, leveraging media, events, field missions, and most especially effective storytelling to increase the organization’s share of voice and influence.Act as an ambassador for nutrition and nutrition programs, educating and advocating departments and partners on the distinction between food/agriculture and micronutrients/nutrition. Build and maintain relationships with Nutrition International’s key regional and sub-regional partners, attending meetings, identifying opportunities for engagement and technical assistance, and coordinating support across Nutrition International’s teams and geographies.
