Job Description

Search for Common Ground (Search) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict. With headquarters in Washington, DC and Brussels, Belgium, our mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. We seek to help conflicting parties understand their differences and act on their commonalities. With a total of approximately 750 staff worldwide, we implement projects from 55 offices in 34 countries, including in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. Within Sub-Saharan Africa, Search works in 19 countries: Burundi, Chad, Central African Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Somalia. SFCG began working in Kenya following the post-election violence of 2007-2008, with the production of the TV drama The Team. Our programming seeks to promote peace and end violence, using radio programs, outreach activities, and support to local organizations. Search Kenya programming is currently working in the Coastal region in Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Lamu, Garissa and Tana River Counties. Together with its implementing partners Search is implementing projects that seek to foster collaborative and inclusive community-led prevention of election-related conflicts in Coastal Kenya as well as peaceful and just societies where all enjoy freedom of religion and belief.
Internship Assignments:
Work with the Finance and Administration Department to;
1. Supports in logistics for organization of meetings, field activities, venues and accommodation2. Initiate purchase request3. Supports in photocopying, scanning and filing4. Getting quotes for various procurement as required5. Prepare bid analysis as required6. Issue stationery to staff7. Confirm stock taking for office supplies and initiate requests for replenishment8. Conduct watchlist for suppliers, consultants, participants9. Remit statutory payments10. Ensure cleanliness of the office11. Run office errands12. Supports in Pre-audit assessment13. Supports in filling withholding tax for consultant payments14. Follow-up on submission of original documents from Program amp; DME Team
• Any other assignment as may be delegated
Deliverables1. Adequately documented procurement documentation2. Timely confirmation of logistics as required3. Adequate office amp; kitchen supplies at all times4. Timely submission of suppliers invoices to finance5. Timely booking
Internship Terms• For the purpose of the internship in Kenya the intern will be supervised by the Finance and Administration Manager, who will be responsible for setting tasks and evaluating the intern’s work.• The work objectives below will be undertaken by the intern on the basis of 5 working days per week, for 3 months, with any days off agreed in advance with the supervisor.• The internship may be terminated by either side by informing the other in writing.• Required to have a laptop• 1 intern will be based in Mombasa and 1 will be based in Garissa
Minimum Qualifications• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Business Management/Finance• Dynamic, motivated and flexible selfstarter leader with creative problem-solving skills.•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite• Cultural sensitivity.• Spoken and written fluency in English and Swahili.
Search will supply the following:A modest transport stipend will be provided at the end of each month worked.
