Basis: Consultant (12 Months with possible extension)
Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in Kenya

The role

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has developed a set of world-leading learning experiences that support computing education for young people aged 5-25 years old, addressing both formal education and non-formal learning contexts. Our aim is to further develop these products to benefit learners across Kenya by deeply understanding the local context

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is looking for an experienced educator to support their work bringing computing curriculum content to Kenya to support the Kenyan competency based curriculum. This multi year project will involve:

  • collaboration with our UK based team to design curriculum sequences for multiple grades.
  • Adapting existing lesson materials (slides, worksheets, lesson plans etc) to suit the above sequence and the needs of learners in Kenya.

You will have the opportunity to work across our portfolio of learning products, all of which are informed by the world's leading edge research and underpinned by tried and tested pedagogical approaches. They include:

  • A complete sequence of lesson resources, online courses, and interactive questions to support the teaching and learning of computing and computer science in schools.
  • Content to support facilitators and their young people to engage with computing in our network of clubs.

The ideal candidates will have a qualification in computer science or a related subject, with a teaching qualification or significant experience of teaching. You will need to be comfortable with a wide range of hardware and software, and be eager to learn more.

We strive to make the Foundation a place where talented people who care about our mission can do the best work of their careers. We have a flexible and collaborative approach to all aspects of our work. If you’re the right person for this role, we’ll make it work for you, and you can be confident that you’ll be working with an exceptional team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver learning experiences, content, resources, and training for the Foundation's educational programmes and products.
  • Ensure that learning experiences, content, resources, and training reflect evidence-based pedagogy and the Foundation's agreed approaches to teaching and learning across formal education and non-formal learning.
  • Contribute to the development of the Foundation's teaching and learning strategy and approaches. Actively engage with research and best practice, and identify areas for improvement and innovation.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation and external partners.
  • Engage positively with the Foundation's systems for quality assurance, including in relation to agreed policies for inclusion and accessibility.
  • Proactively utilise user feedback and data to drive improvement.
  • Represent the Raspberry Pi Foundation to external audiences and stakeholders as required.
  • Contribute to the Foundation's thought leadership through writing articles and blogs, public speaking, and contributing to research and evaluation.

Experience and personal attributes

We recognise that everyone has the potential for growth and development. We expect post holders to have most, but not necessarily all of the following experience and personal attributes:

  • A thorough understanding of computing, with a suitable qualification in computer science or a related subject.
  • A teaching qualification, or significant experience of teaching computing or a related subject.
  • Experience of delivering high quality learning experiences, content, resources, or training in Kenyan schools
  • Comfortable with a broad range of technologies, including hardware and software platforms, and the ability and willingness to learn new technologies as required.
  • An understanding of computing pedagogy within formal education and informal learning.
  • A commitment to the Foundation's mission and values, including on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and external partners. Openness to working across the Foundation's programmes and products.
  • Willingness to travel within Kenya and potentially to the UK and internationally.
